I must admit, after watching the recent debate, I understand the concern and panic that many Democrats are feeling about Joe Biden’s performance. It was not his best moment, to say the least. As much as I want to support the Democratic nominee no matter what, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Biden appeared to struggle to articulate his thoughts and seemed to lack the vigor and clarity that we need in a presidential candidate.

The recent news of a man being executed in North Korea for listening to 70 K-pop songs is a stark reminder of the oppressive regime that governs the country. The fact that listening to music can warrant a death penalty is chilling, to say the least. While the man was also distributing South Korean media, including movies, it is clear that it is not the act of listening to the music itself that is being punished, but rather the broader issue of state control and suppression of any form of cultural influence from the outside world.
I find it hypocritical that the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, who reportedly loves the K-pop group Red Velvet and even had them perform for him and others in North Korea a few years ago, would allow such extreme measures to be taken against someone for the same actions that he himself enjoys.… Continue reading
I vividly remember the day when the Hells Angels had a shootout with another biker gang near Buck Owens Crystal Palace in Bakersfield. It seems like a typical day in the area, filled with violence and criminal activities. The recent arrest of the entire Bakersfield chapter of the Hells Angels doesn’t come as a surprise. The fact that only seven members were arrested raises questions about the size and structure of the chapter. It appears to be a small group for such a notorious motorcycle gang.

I can’t wrap my head around the shocking news that ten thousand recently naturalized Russian citizens have been drafted and sent to war in Ukraine. These individuals, part of a group of 30,000 new Russian citizens, were reportedly caught failing to register for mandatory military service. It’s appalling to think about where these individuals might have come from. Could they be individuals from the occupied territories who were forced to exchange their Ukrainian passports for Russian citizenship? The thought that citizenship now guarantees service is troubling.

The lack of fact checking allowed Trump to spout lies without consequence, while Biden struggled to counter the misinformation. Watching the debate felt like a waste of time, as the moderators failed to hold the candidates accountable for their statements.
It’s appalling that Trump was able to talk about post-birth abortions without being fact-checked. PBS, on the other hand, provided live fact-checking and called out Trump’s lies.
