Confused Trump, 79, Makes Bizarre Claim About Looming Ice Storm. It’s almost comical at this point, but here we go again. Amidst predictions of a major ice storm hitting several states, specifically those unaccustomed to such weather, along with the potential for heavy snow in northern states, the former president decided to weigh in. And, well, it wasn’t exactly a nuanced take.
The core of the issue stems from a Truth Social post where Trump, now 79, declared, “Record Cold Wave expected to hit 40 States…Could the Environmental Insurrectionists please explain—WHATEVER HAPPENED TO GLOBAL WARMING???” It’s the same old tune, the same tired refrain, the same willful ignorance we’ve heard, and sadly, likely will continue to hear. The “logic” is, essentially, the weather is cold, therefore climate change isn’t real. As if a single, or even a series, of cold snaps disproves decades of scientific consensus.
The irony, of course, is almost breathtaking. This is the same man who once expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, purportedly to exploit shipping routes opened by… you guessed it… global warming. The cognitive dissonance is astounding, but it’s also, sadly, predictable. It’s a calculated move. A way to pander to a base that struggles to differentiate between weather and climate, and who are likely to eat up this “gotcha” moment. It’s not necessarily confusion, but rather a deliberate strategy.
The implications are far reaching. His followers, and a significant portion of the GOP, will gladly run with the narrative, dismissing scientific warnings and clinging to this false dichotomy. It’s a dangerous game, one that undermines efforts to address climate change and its very real consequences. Meanwhile, the planet is warming, ice caps are melting, and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and more intense.
It’s a pattern, really. The misapplication of terms, the dismissal of scientific consensus, the reliance on rhetoric over reality. Consider his use of the term “Environmental Insurrectionists.” The deliberate misuse of words, the constant labeling of opponents, the attempt to make the term “insurrection” meaningless through overuse. It’s all part of the same playbook.
It’s disheartening to consider the millions who happily buy into this sort of misinformation. The same people who fail to understand the difference between weather and climate. But then again, this is the guy that has claimed that windmills are causing cancer. This deliberate confusion does not occur on its own, it’s a symptom of a much larger, systemic problem of willful ignorance and the intentional spread of disinformation.
The reality is this: global warming is happening. It’s contributing to the erratic weather patterns, the intense storms, and the very ice storms Trump is pointing to as proof of his own flawed thinking. It’s not a question of belief, it’s a matter of scientific fact. And yet, here we are, facing another instance of Trump’s confusing and incorrect claims.
It makes one wonder, how can you not understand the most basic concepts of science? This person may be getting old, but that doesn’t excuse this behavior. This is not confusion, as much as it is a calculated decision to muddy the waters, to sow doubt, and to serve a political agenda. The media often focuses on the blunders of the current administration, but perhaps this kind of misrepresentation is even more dangerous. This willful ignorance is enabled by certain news outlets that help push these falsehoods and enable his ignorance.
And so, we’re left to shake our heads, again. It is not surprising. This is the reality. The only thing truly bizarre is that this continues to resonate with so many. This is a deliberate strategy, not a sign of confusion, even though there’s probably plenty of that going around as well. But his base doesn’t know the difference.
