I find myself deeply troubled by the recent developments in Russia, especially with the Kremlin’s revival of Soviet-style youth indoctrination as they seemingly prepare for a ‘Forever War’ with Ukraine and the West. The parallels drawn to Orwell’s 1984 are eerily accurate, with the emphasis on creating a militarized youth force ready to mobilize at a moment’s notice. The mentality of needing “warriors, gunmen, stormtroopers” reminds me of a dark chapter in history that we should have learned from, not repeated.
