World Athletics has implemented a new policy requiring athletes to pass a one-time gene test to compete in the female category at world-ranking competitions. This test for the SRY gene, which can be conducted through a cheek swab or blood test, will be overseen by member federations and is meant to ensure that only biologically female athletes compete. This rule comes into effect on September 1st, aiming to create a level playing field, as gender cannot trump biology.
