Student Pilot Lands Plane Solo After Instructor Jumps to Death

During a flight lesson in central Argentina, a 42-year-old instructor, Leandro Andrés Bertazzo, exited the moving aircraft at approximately 850 feet. He instructed his 22-year-old student to continue flying and landing the plane, which she successfully accomplished. Authorities recovered Bertazzo’s body, and while no pre-jump indicators were apparent to his employer, his father reported he had recently sought psychiatric help due to personal difficulties.
