It’s no secret that animal to human transmission of various strains of bird flu is quite common, but the concern arises when there is human to human transmission. This case, however, marks the first known instance globally of a person catching this version of bird flu from a mammal, according to federal health officials. The fact that this individual contracted the virus from a mammal rather than a bird adds a new layer of complexity to the situation.
