This pace significantly outpaces the growth in the detainee population, alarming public health officials who point to systemic failures in overseeing immigrant detention. Many of these individuals, despite being characterized by the administration as dangerous, had no prior violent crime records. The investigation found repeated instances of ignored distress signals, delayed mental health treatment, and inadequate monitoring, violating ICE’s own detention standards.
