Sonoma County Deputy Kills Ex-Girlfriend, Then Himself: Not Unusual
In a shocking incident, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Lyle fatally shot his ex-girlfriend, Detention Specialist Mari Bonnici, before taking his own life. The Santa Rosa Police Department responded to a 911 call where Lyle had handed an infant to a woman, stating the child’s mother was injured. Upon arrival at the scene, police found Bonnici deceased with at least one gunshot wound; three children, including twins, were present but unharmed. Lyle later drove to the coroner’s office, leading to a standoff with the SWAT team that ultimately ended with him taking his own life. Authorities cited domestic violence as the motive, although no prior reports were on record, and Bonnici had filed for dissolution of their domestic partnership.
