Republican lawmaker calls for next president to ‘work our way back’ to 1960s

When I heard about a Republican lawmaker suggesting that the next president should “work our way back” to the 1960s, my initial reaction was one of disbelief and frustration. The 1960s were a time fraught with social unrest, civil rights movements, and significant challenges that our society was grappling with. To call for a return to that era seems not only misguided but also tone-deaf to the struggles and progress that we have made since then.

‘Why Can’t We Go Back?’ Christian Nationalist State Sen. Dusty Deevers Wants To Go Back To The 1600s

I can’t wrap my mind around State Senator Dusty Deevers’ desire to turn back the clock and go back to the 1600s. The very idea seems absurd and, quite frankly, terrifying. The 1600s were a time of great turmoil, with political and religious conflicts tearing Europe apart. Life expectancy was drastically lower, women had few rights, and scientific progress was stifled by superstition. It was a time when the church held immense power, often to the detriment of society.

It boggles my mind that there are people like Senator Deevers who long for such a backwards and regressive time. The advances we have made in terms of human rights, gender equality, and medical and technological innovation are incredible and worth celebrating.… Continue reading
