Shares in Donald Trump’s social media outlet, Trump Media, have lost about 41% of their value in just three days, based on slowing expectations about the former president’s re-election prospects. The shares, which trade under the ticker “DJT”, have become a barometer of how traders think the presidential election will turn out. The company’s shares, which quadrupled in value between 23 September and Tuesday’s closing bell, from $10.3bn to $5.9bn, have been extraordinarily volatile all year. Despite a relatively tiny user base, at one point Trump Media was briefly worth more than Twitter. George Kailas, CEO of Prospero.ai, explained that this is typical behaviour for a meme stock.

Two Brazilian influencers, Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, drowned after a boat they were partying on capsized off the coast of São Paulo. Five of the seven people onboard were rescued, while the bodies of Amorim and Faria were later found. The boat’s captain said the two had declined to wear life jackets as they were taking selfies; police confirmed they did not know each other before the party. The boat was hit by a wave in the region known as Devil’s Throat as partygoers were being taken back to land.

The recent revelation that Donald Trump’s campaign collaborated with Elon Musk’s X to keep a leaked file about JD Vance off the platform raises serious concerns about the manipulation of information in the political sphere. As an individual who values the freedoms of speech and assembly, it is alarming to see a social media corporation dictate what information is deemed suitable for the public’s consumption. The removal of this material from X underscores the increasingly concerning alliance between powerful individuals and political figures, highlighting the potential for abuse of influence in shaping public opinion.
It is disheartening to witness the blatant disregard for transparency and accountability in political campaigns when they resort to tactics like preventing the dissemination of crucial information through social media platforms.… Continue reading
The level of ignorance and stupidity that seems to be prevalent in our society today is truly mind-boggling. It’s disheartening to see the disrespect and threats directed towards meteorologists who are simply doing their jobs in providing accurate weather forecasts. As someone who values science and the expertise of professionals in their respective fields, it’s frustrating to witness the surge of hurricane conspiracies that have led to such outrageous claims and threats.
It’s absurd to think that there are individuals out there who believe in category 6 hurricanes or that meteorologists are somehow manipulating these natural disasters. The fact that some people are resorting to death threats and violence against scientists is a disturbing trend that needs to be addressed immediately.… Continue reading
I find it incredibly disheartening to see the extent to which misinformation has permeated our society, particularly with regards to elections. Sen. Mark Kelly’s call for the federal government to do a better job of informing Americans about the substantial amount of misinformation circulating on social media platforms is not only timely but also crucial in maintaining the integrity of our democratic process. The fact that a significant portion of the population is impervious to facts, choosing instead to believe in baseless conspiracy theories and propaganda, is a direct threat to the foundation of our society.
The rise of disinformation campaigns orchestrated by foreign entities such as Russia, Iran, and China is a clear indication of the sophisticated psychological operations that are at play in shaping public opinion.… Continue reading
As the news of states suing TikTok over its effects on kids’ mental health circulates, I can’t help but analyze the situation from different angles. The debate surrounding social media and its impact on youth has been ongoing, with many arguments pointing fingers at both the platform itself and the parents who allow unrestricted access. While it is easy to blame TikTok for its addictive nature and potentially harmful content, the reality is that parental supervision plays a crucial role in mitigating these issues.
There is no denying that TikTok, like many other social media platforms, has the potential to negatively influence the mental health of children and adults alike.… Continue reading
Truth Social users are losing ridiculous sums of money to scams, and frankly, it’s not surprising at all. The platform seems to be a breeding ground for individuals who are easily swayed and manipulated. These users have been groomed to distrust facts and reality, making them the perfect targets for scammers looking to make a quick buck off of their misplaced trust.
From Trump Gold Bars to Election Insurance Policies, the scams on Truth Social seem to know no bounds. It’s disheartening to see people falling for these schemes, but at the same time, it’s hard to muster up sympathy for individuals who willingly put themselves in this vulnerable position.… Continue reading
Elon Musk, the name synonymous with innovation and cutting-edge technology, has recently faced a significant setback in his investment venture. Fidelity estimates that his acquisition, known as X, is now worth nearly 80% less than what he initially paid for it. This staggering decrease in value raises questions about Musk’s business acumen and strategic decision-making. However, could there be more to this story than meets the eye?
It is essential to note that Musk reportedly overpaid for X when he made the purchase. Despite this, the sharp decline in value has undoubtedly taken many by surprise. Some may argue that this substantial loss is all part of Musk’s grand plan, a move orchestrated by a man known for his unconventional and visionary thinking.… Continue reading
Misinformation running rampant on Facebook has officials concerned about election disruptions. It’s a headline that seems all too familiar, yet the issue persists with no real solution in sight. The problem is not new, with Facebook being a cesspool of fake news, conspiracy theories, and propaganda for years now. Yet, despite the clear danger it poses to the democratic process, little has been done to truly combat the spread of misinformation on the platform.
The recent revelations about Russia’s use of social media to fuel instability in Western nations is just the tip of the iceberg. It is not just foreign actors that are using Facebook as a tool to manipulate public opinion, but also domestic groups and individuals who have realized the power of spreading lies and falsehoods to achieve their own agenda.… Continue reading
I can’t help but shake my head at the sheer absurdity of the situation. A woman decides to get the name of a politician permanently inked on her forehead, only to regret it later and launch a fundraiser to cover the cost of removing it. The level of impulsivity and lack of foresight is baffling to say the least.
The comments and reactions from people online are a mixed bag of criticism, disbelief, and mockery. Some argue that she should take responsibility for her own actions and not expect handouts from others. After all, she made the choice to get the tattoo in the first place.… Continue reading
