Seattle is reportedly experiencing a surge in transgender individuals seeking refuge from anti-transgender legislation and threats to personal safety in conservative states. This influx, described as a form of internal displacement, is straining local resources and prompting city leaders to consider declaring a civil emergency. Community organizations are already overwhelmed by the growing demand for essential services like housing, healthcare, and legal support, highlighting the insufficiency of community-driven efforts alone to address this emerging crisis.

A levee breach south of Seattle, following a week of heavy rains, prompted an evacuation order for portions of Kent, Renton, and Tukwila. The failure on the Desimone levee along the Green River led to the evacuation of approximately 1,100 homes and businesses. While the initial flash flood warning covered a large area, it was later reduced as authorities assessed the impact, with the flooding primarily affecting industrial areas. Crews were present and utilizing sandbags to manage the breach, which damaged a bike path, while long-term repairs to the damaged levee are not expected until 2031.

I watched the video of the incident in Seattle where a retired Navy doctor was shot by police in a child sex sting operation. The fact that this man, with a 40-year Navy history, was caught attempting to meet two minors in a hotel is sickening to me. It makes me wonder what he was really up to during his deployments, especially in Afghanistan where he treated civilians, including children. The thought that someone like him could have been trusted to serve and protect is deeply troubling.
The video showed that the man had a gun with him and when confronted by officers, he pulled it out.… Continue reading
The recent news about the SPD officer who hit and killed Jaahnavi Kandula in a crosswalk will not be facing any charges has left me speechless. Hearing about Officer Kevin Dave carelessly driving 74 miles an hour in a 25 mph zone, not continuously running his siren, and still getting off scot-free is not only enraging but also disheartening. When we look at the Washington State statute that grants certain privileges to authorized emergency vehicles, it’s evident that there are conditions in place to ensure the safety of innocent civilians. The fact that a life was lost due to reckless driving, yet no charges were filed, is a clear example of the unjust system we live in.… Continue reading
