RFK Jr.’s actions regarding Peter Marks, the FDA’s top vaccine scientist, are deeply concerning. Marks’ resignation letter paints a disturbing picture, alleging that truth and transparency were not valued by the Secretary, who instead preferred subservient agreement with misinformation and lies. This suggests a deliberate attempt to undermine the scientific integrity of the FDA, a crucial institution for public health.
The situation is further aggravated by RFK Jr.’s hiring of a widely discredited vaccine researcher as a senior data analyst at HHS. This appointment, tasked with investigating the debunked link between vaccines and autism, represents a blatant disregard for scientific consensus and fuels the spread of dangerous misinformation.… Continue reading
Over 1,000 NOAA employees, including experts in marine animal tracking and climate data analysis, have been laid off, severely impacting the agency’s ability to monitor and predict crucial ocean changes. These cuts come at a time of record-breaking ocean temperatures and instability in key ocean currents, threatening accurate weather forecasting, fisheries management, and public safety. The loss of expertise, particularly among early-career scientists, jeopardizes long-term research and US leadership in ocean science, potentially benefiting other nations like China. This diminished capacity for ocean monitoring could lead to inadequate disaster preparedness and economic losses.

Over 1,700 scientists signed an open letter urging the Royal Society to expel Elon Musk from its fellowship, citing his controversial public statements and actions as head of “Doge,” a US government efficiency department. This follows the resignations of two fellows due to the Royal Society’s inaction on previous concerns regarding Musk’s behavior, including inflammatory comments targeting a UK MP. The letter highlights Musk’s association with a Trump administration actively undermining scientific research and criticizes the Royal Society’s lack of transparency in addressing these issues. A Royal Society meeting is scheduled to discuss the principles governing fellows’ public conduct.

When I first heard about Bill Nye backing Kamala Harris and declaring that “Science Isn’t Partisan. It’s Patriotic”, I couldn’t help but feel a mixture of admiration and hesitation. As a scientist myself, I understand the importance of staying true to facts and evidence, regardless of political affiliations. But the idea of equating science with patriotism struck me as somewhat unusual, even jingoistic. Science, by its very nature, is objective and unbiased. It doesn’t pledge allegiance to any country or ideology. It simply seeks to understand the natural world through observation, experimentation, and critical thinking.
Bill Nye’s call to action for Americans to vote for climate and clean energy champions resonates deeply with me.… Continue reading
