Eight Democrats Vote For GOP Bill Forcing Teachers To Out Transgender Students
The House of Representatives recently passed a bill that would mandate public school teachers to disclose a transgender student’s identity to their parents. This legislation, named the Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act, also prohibits teachers from discussing transgender individuals or related topics in the classroom and bans LGBTQ+ school groups. While largely supported by Republicans, the bill also saw the votes of eight Democrats, some of whom represent vulnerable swing districts and cited parental involvement as their primary motivation. Opponents argue this bill puts transgender youth at serious risk and is a conservative attempt to legislate transgender existence out of schools.
