I can’t help but feel a deep sense of outrage and disappointment when I read about the California education official who embezzled over $16 million from the school district. The fact that this man, Jorge Armando Contreras, managed the fiscal operations of a school district where 81% of students are classified as socio-economically disadvantaged is particularly galling. How could someone in a position of trust, overseeing the financial well-being of a district already struggling with limited resources, stoop so low as to steal such an exorbitant amount of money?
