Democrat Roy Cooper’s victory in the North Carolina governor’s race is a huge relief for many, especially those who were deeply concerned about the prospect of Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate, winning. Robinson, a controversial figure who made numerous inflammatory statements, including one about his sister-in-law, had generated a great deal of negative attention and anxiety among many voters. His loss is seen as a rejection of his extreme views and a victory for sanity.
