Yolanda Marodi, suspected of murdering her wife, Fire Captain Rebecca Marodi, was apprehended in Mexicali, Mexico, after over a month as a fugitive. The arrest followed collaboration between U.S. and Mexican authorities, utilizing information and cooperation to locate Marodi near the border. Security footage depicted a violent altercation where Rebecca Marodi was fatally stabbed; Yolanda Marodi subsequently fled the scene and crossed into Mexico. Yolanda Marodi has been charged with murder and will be returned to the U.S. to face trial.

Following President Trump’s pardon, Andrew Taake, a January 6th rioter, was arrested in Leon County, Texas, on Tuesday for a 2016 charge of online solicitation of a minor. A multi-agency operation tracked Taake to the residence, culminating in his arrest. Despite a request from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Taake’s release from federal custody was not prevented due to a delay in processing the warrant. He is now held without bond pending transfer to Harris County Jail.

Trump freed a Jan. 6 defendant charged with assaulting police. This individual, a two-time convicted felon with a history of violence, had been involved in throwing an explosive device into a Capitol tunnel filled with law enforcement officers. His release, part of a broader pardon granted by Trump, understandably sparked controversy and raised questions about the process and its implications.
The Department of Justice (DOJ), however, seemingly had a different perspective on this defendant’s freedom. Almost immediately following his release on the Jan. 6 charges, the DOJ acted swiftly and decisively. They re-arrested him. The basis for the re-arrest? Brian Whitelock, released from prison after serving 18 years for a double murder, was given a whole-life sentence for the brutal murder of his neighbor, Wendy Buckney. Despite concerns from Buckney’s family, she had employed Whitelock for odd jobs, believing he deserved a second chance. The Parole Board’s decision to release Whitelock, based on a low-risk assessment, was deemed flawed in light of the subsequent murder, which involved torture and sexual assault. A serious further offence review is now underway.
