A collision between two East Midlands Railway services near Bedford has resulted in the tragic death of a train driver and left 89 people injured, with 11 sustaining very serious injuries. Emergency services worked through the night at the scene, located just south of the Elstow interchange. The incident, involving trains from Corby and Nottingham to London St Pancras, is the first fatal mainline passenger train collision in Britain this century and the most serious rail accident in terms of injuries in two decades.
