Public funds and government power are channeled to friends and family businesses, while regulatory agencies are hollowed out or weaponized for profit, with industries like fossil fuels and big tech seeing unprecedented returns on their political investments. This has led to a hostile corporate takeover where working people are exploited, and democracy is undermined as obscene wealth purchases political power. Therefore, defunding the oligarchy and reinvesting in public goods is presented as the path forward to restore faith in government and ensure it serves the people, not donors.
