Judge orders Justice Department to return helmet, spear to ‘QAnon Shaman’

Judge orders Justice Department to return helmet, spear to ‘QAnon Shaman’

When news broke that a judge had ordered the Justice Department to return the helmet and spear to the ‘QAnon Shaman’, my initial reaction was a mixture of confusion and disbelief. The idea of a man who had played a role in the disturbing events that unfolded on January 6th being reunited with his cosplay accessories seemed frivolous and almost comical. However, upon further contemplation, I came to a realization that this decision, although controversial, is fundamentally grounded in principles of justice and legality.

The notion that the government should not unjustly withhold an individual’s property, regardless of their past actions or beliefs, is one that resonates with me.… Continue reading

Judge orders that Hawaii Island house built on wrong lot be demolished

I can’t help but feel a mix of frustration and sympathy when I read about the judge’s order to demolish a house built on the wrong lot in Hawaii. It’s disheartening to see the property owner caught in the middle of a legal battle that was not of her making. The fact that the company responsible for the mistake might try to declare bankruptcy to avoid their liabilities is a tactic that sadly seems all too common with developers and contractors.

While the judge did not order the restoration of the land to its original condition, it still feels like a major injustice.… Continue reading

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signs law squashing squatters’ rights

As I sit back and ponder over the recent news of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signing a law that squashes squatters’ rights, I find myself in a state of conflicting emotions. On one hand, I cannot deny the sheer absurdity of squatters having any rights to someone else’s property. The idea that individuals can just waltz into a vacant home and claim it as their own is preposterous. How did we even get to a point where such a concept exists in our legal system?

I am relieved to see that under this new law, property owners finally have the power to request law enforcement to remove squatters immediately if they unlawfully enter a property and refuse to leave.… Continue reading

Property owner stunned after $500,000 house built on wrong lot.

As a property owner, the idea of a $500,000 house being built on the wrong lot is absolutely mind-boggling. The fact that the developers did not want to hire surveyors is a red flag in itself. Avoiding a crucial step in the construction process, such as conducting a survey to ensure the correct lot is being used, is simply negligent on the part of the developers. It is clear that the responsibility lies with them for this costly mistake.

The audacity of the contractors/builders to sue the property owner after this enormous blunder is absurd. Offering her the lot next to the wrongly built house as a consolation, and then proceeding with legal action, is just adding insult to injury.… Continue reading

Police officer, court employee killed during Missouri home eviction likely over taxes

their retirement or paycheck or something. The house is shelter, a basic human necessity. This situation is tragic and unnecessary. If the government is going to tax property, they should have more lenient options for those struggling to make ends meet. It shouldn’t have to escalate to the point of eviction and violence. Larry Acree’s actions were unjustifiable, and the loss of Officer Cody Allen and Drexel Mack is heartbreaking.

Acree’s delinquency in paying taxes and bills should have been handled in a more compassionate and effective manner. The escalation to foreclosure and eviction resulting in such a devastating outcome could have been avoided.… Continue reading
