Seuk Kim, a 49-year-old pilot known for his volunteer work transporting rescued dogs, died in a plane crash in New York’s Catskill Mountains. The crash, involving a Mooney M20J aircraft, also resulted in the death of one dog, while another injured dog was rescued and a third later found safe. The incident is under investigation by the NTSB, with weather conditions at the time noted as light rain and a foot of snow on the ground. As I sat in front of my computer screen, navigating through Microsoft Flight Simulator, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of confusion and concern when I read about the recent incident involving a Southwest flight that came dangerously close to the water. The fact that the plane had descended to just 175 feet above sea level while still 3 miles away from Tampa International Airport left me wondering how such a precarious situation could unfold.
