I was completely taken aback when I stumbled upon the headline about North Korean workers in China rioting over unpaid wages, eventually escalating to the point where 2,000 workers occupied the factory and tragically killed the plant manager. The situation is not only dire but also sheds light on the harsh reality faced by these workers who are already enduring difficult circumstances.

As someone who has been in power for over 10 years, it is disheartening to hear that North Korea’s rural areas have remained horribly underdeveloped since the collapse of the USSR. And while Kim Jong-un may have had ample time to fix these issues, it seems that he has instead chosen to focus on other priorities.
It is difficult to ignore the stark irony in Kim Jong-un’s declaration to help the starving people in remote villages by building 20 new missiles and shooting them into the sea.
