Federal agents, alongside the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau, executed search warrants at multiple locations, including the home of former NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, as part of a joint investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and extortion. Maddrey, who resigned after being accused of demanding sexual favors from a subordinate in exchange for overtime opportunities, denies any wrongdoing, claiming a consensual relationship. These actions follow similar investigations into other high-ranking NYPD officials and are part of a broader inquiry into alleged misconduct within the department. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office is also involved in investigating these serious allegations.

Jeffrey Maddrey’s lawyer admitted to a consensual relationship between Maddrey and Lt. Quathisha Epps, but denied claims of quid pro quo sexual harassment. The lawyer alleges Epps initiated the relationship and is deflecting from an ongoing overtime pay investigation. Epps, however, claims Maddrey demanded sexual favors in exchange for overtime, and retaliated when she refused. This admission contradicts previous denials and further fuels ongoing investigations into the matter.

Following a federal investigation prompted by the suicide of a nonbinary student, the US Department of Education has determined that the Owasso Public School District violated Title IX by failing to adequately address multiple reports of sexual harassment. The investigation revealed a pattern of inconsistent responses to harassment complaints, with the district often failing to investigate or respond appropriately, demonstrating deliberate indifference to students’ civil rights. This pattern of inaction, including the district’s failure to investigate the student’s death as potential sexual harassment, contributed to a school environment that was unsafe and hostile for LGBTQ+ students. As a result, the district has agreed to implement new policies, procedures, and training to ensure compliance with Title IX and create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment.

In light of a recent rape in the Berlin metro, Green Party lawmaker Antje Kapek has proposed introducing separate train carriages for female passengers during evening rush hour, drawing inspiration from a similar system in Tokyo. This initiative aims to enhance women’s safety by providing them with a protected space during peak hours, a time when crowded conditions can increase the risk of unwanted touch or assault. While the proposal is still under discussion within the Green Party, the city’s BVG public transport company has expressed skepticism, emphasizing their existing safety measures such as 24/7 security personnel and designated assistance points at stations.

Elon Musk recently caused a stir, yet again, with his bizarre offer to impregnate Taylor Swift. As a person who closely follows current events, I was taken aback by the audacity and creepiness of Musk’s comments. It is appalling to see someone of his stature resort to such juvenile behavior. Musk, who never seems to shy away from controversy, crossed a line with his unwanted sexual advance towards Swift.
It is alarming to witness the level of entitlement displayed by Musk in this situation. His offer to impregnate Swift without her consent is nothing short of sexual harassment. This is not an issue that should be taken lightly.… Continue reading
In light of recent news surrounding Elon Musk and SpaceX, it’s clear that the man has been swimming in deep waters tainted by allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination against women within the company. As someone with a strong stance against such misconduct, it’s disheartening to see someone of Musk’s stature being accused of actions that can have severe consequences on the employees and the work environment at SpaceX.
The allegations of engineers being fired for bringing up concerns about sexual harassment and discrimination is not something that should be taken lightly. Employees have the right to voice their concerns and raise red flags when they believe that something unethical or illegal is happening within the workplace.… Continue reading
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I stumbled upon the news that over 100 hidden-camera videos, predominantly of Navy sailors, were uploaded to a porn site. Having worked on USS ships as a civilian in the past, I know firsthand the camaraderie and trust that exist within the naval community. So, learning about such despicable acts of invasion of privacy and exploitation left me deeply disturbed.
It’s shocking to think that individuals within the ranks of the Navy, a symbol of honor and integrity, could stoop so low as to violate the sanctity and privacy of their fellow sailors. The incident with the hidden camera disguised as a command hook in a female berthing is a clear indication of the pervasive nature of such disturbing behavior within the male military culture.… Continue reading
As I read about the Biden administration’s decision to roll back the Betsy DeVos Title IX rules, a wave of relief washed over me. The regulations set forth during DeVos’ tenure were deeply troubling, as they narrowly defined sexual harassment and allowed for live hearings where the accused could cross-examine their accusers. This practice had the potential to discourage victims of sexual misconduct from coming forward, perpetuating a culture of fear and silence. President Biden’s promise to scrap these rules signals a step in the right direction towards creating a safer and more equitable educational environment.
The new rule proposed by the administration will protect students and employees from sex-based discrimination, including sexual violence and other forms of harassment.… Continue reading
