The Pride Parade cancelled mid-route after a pro-Palestinian demonstration on Yonge has sparked significant controversy and debate. As an individual, I find myself torn over the events that transpired. On one hand, the disruption caused by a small group of protestors, chanting “Free Palestine” and “Pride wants a riot”, leading to the parade’s cancellation seems incredibly disheartening. How could such a celebratory event be hijacked by a political agenda, risking the safety and joy of thousands in attendance?

As an individual who identifies as part of the LGBTQI+ community, the recent warnings issued by the FBI and DHS regarding possible attacks during Pride Month worldwide are incredibly alarming. The fact that foreign terrorist organizations or supporters may seek to exploit our community’s increased gatherings is a sobering reality that we must all grapple with. The rhetoric against LGBTQI+ events and venues spread by groups like the Islamic State (IS) is not only deeply disturbing but also highlights the ongoing hatred and intolerance that persists towards individuals like myself simply because of who I love.

Ban of transgender people from Utah’s public bathrooms passes Senate
As I read about the recent decision to ban transgender individuals from using public restrooms in Utah, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of anger, frustration, and disbelief. It is disheartening to witness such discriminatory policies being passed in this day and age, especially in a country that prides itself on equality and freedom.
The statistics speak volumes about the direction of American politics. With 28% of Gen Z identifying as LGBTQ+ and 22% identifying as Republican, it is clear that the demographics are shifting.
