Teen girl sues Detroit judge who detained her after she fell asleep in courtroom

I cannot begin to express my outrage at the treatment this young girl faced at the hands of a Detroit judge. To think that a 15-year-old visiting on a school field trip could be subjected to such humiliation and abuse of power is beyond comprehension. The fact that she was sleep-deprived due to not having a permanent home makes the situation even more heartbreaking.

The judge’s actions, of having her disrobe, put on jail garb, handcuffing her, and leaving her isolated in a holding cell, are not only a violation of her constitutional rights but a cruel and unnecessary exercise of authority.… Continue reading

Missouri governor commutes prison sentence for ex-Kansas City Chiefs coach who seriously injured child in drunken-driving wreck

As I read about the Missouri governor commuting the prison sentence for the ex-Kansas City Chiefs coach who seriously injured a child in a drunken-driving wreck, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of outrage and disbelief. The fact that this individual, who had a history of violent and impulsive behavior, was given such special treatment is truly disgusting. It raises serious questions about the integrity of our justice system and reaffirms the belief that there are indeed two separate systems of justice in this country.
