Matthew Muller, the man dubbed the “Gone Girl” kidnapper after his 2015 guilty plea for the kidnapping and sexual assault of Denise Huskins, now faces new charges related to earlier home invasions. These charges, announced by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office, stem from two separate incidents in 2009.
The first incident, occurring on September 29th, 2009, allegedly involved Muller breaking into a woman’s Mountain View home. He bound her, forced her to consume a mixture of medications, and threatened to rape her. I am deeply disturbed by the news of the indictments of the former Uvalde school police chief and officer in connection to the failed response to the 2022 mass shooting. The fact that these individuals, who were entrusted to protect innocent lives, failed to act in the face of such a horrific tragedy is abhorrent. The lack of accountability in law enforcement is a systemic issue that needs to be addressed.

It’s outrageous to think that in today’s society, where we place so much trust in law enforcement to protect us, an independent report has found that police officers in Uvalde did not violate policy during a tragic school shooting. The fact that there was a training class held just two months before the massacre, and yet all of the instructors were inside the school hallway during the shooting, is absolutely mind-boggling. These are the individuals who are supposed to protect our children, yet they failed miserably in their duty.

Uvalde school massacre could have been stopped sooner, DOJ report finds. When I first read this headline, I felt a mix of anger and sadness. As the details unfolded, it became clearer that the tragedy could have been prevented if the officers at the scene had taken immediate action. It is deeply troubling to think that these children and teachers lost their lives due to the inaction of those who were supposed to protect them.
