Stolen Jackie Robinson statue found burned, dismantled in trash can

The recent news of the stolen and vandalized Jackie Robinson statue has left me feeling both outraged and disheartened. It is truly shocking to think that someone would hold such a grudge against a man who was an icon and a trailblazer in the world of baseball. The fact that the statue was found burned and dismantled in a trash can only adds to the sense of disgust and disbelief.

Jackie Robinson statue cut down at the ankles, stolen from Wichita park

As I sit here in Wichita, reflecting on the news of the Jackie Robinson statue being cut down at the ankles and stolen from a local park, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions. The first, and perhaps most prevalent, is anger. Anger towards the person or persons responsible for such a senseless act. Anger that someone could have such little regard for the significance and importance of this statue.

But as a Wichitan myself, I also know that our city has a major issue with an illicit scrap metal market. It’s no secret that there are individuals out there who see statues and monuments as nothing more than a means to make a quick buck.… Continue reading
