Minnesota Activist Exposes Doctored White House Arrest Video

Following an anti-immigration protest that resulted in her arrest, Minnesota activist Nekima Levy Armstrong released a video of the incident after the White House posted a manipulated image of her online. The altered image, which depicted Armstrong crying with the caption “Arrested far-left agitator,” was disseminated on social media, prompting Armstrong to share footage recorded by her husband. The video captured federal agents arresting Armstrong, who maintained a composed demeanor throughout the process and spoke of abuse of power. According to Levy Armstrong, the White House used AI to manipulate the image, claiming political persecution for speaking out against the Trump administration.

BBC Verify has found evidence that the White House has regularly used AI-generated images on its social media accounts, starting with the Trump administration. Poynter reported at least 14 AI posts from the White House X account during Trump’s second term. The images include various scenarios, like Trump depicted in different fictional scenarios. Additionally, there have been at least 11 more AI or edited images posted this year, including a recent post that manipulated a real photo.
