Texas Democrat Menefee Wins, Shrinking House GOP Majority

In a special election, Texas Democrat Christian Menefee secured a victory in the 18th District, defeating fellow Democrat Amanda Edwards with 67% of the vote. This win will temporarily shrink the House Republican majority. Menefee will complete the term of the late Sylvester Turner and upon being sworn in, the House will shift to 218 Republicans and 214 Democrats. Menefee, who has previously served as Harris County Attorney, campaigned on progressive policies and will soon face a primary rematch against Edwards for a full term, competing against Rep.
