Italian Guidelines Allow Gay Priests, but Celibacy Remains Mandatory

The Vatican has issued new guidelines permitting gay men to pursue the priesthood in Italy, provided they maintain celibacy. These guidelines, approved by Italian bishops, represent a shift from a 2016 instruction barring men with “deep-seated homosexual tendencies.” While sexual orientation will be considered during the discernment process, it will not be the sole determining factor. The extent to which these revised guidelines will be adopted internationally remains uncertain.

Donald Trump says JD Vance can’t be “weird” because he’s “so straight” — Trump’s defense against the “weird” charges is to insist that his running mate is straight.

I can’t help but shake my head in disbelief at the absurdity of the recent comments made by Donald Trump regarding his running mate, JD Vance. Trump’s defense against accusations of Vance being “weird” is to insist that Vance can’t possibly be weird because he’s “so straight.” The correlation Trump draws between being “straight” and not being “weird” is not only illogical but also deeply problematic.

Sexual orientation has absolutely nothing to do with one’s propensity to be strange or odd. The fact that Trump associates being straight with normalcy is a clear reflection of his narrow-minded and outdated mindset. It is disappointing to see someone in a position of power perpetuating harmful stereotypes and stigmas surrounding sexuality.… Continue reading

As I delve into the recent comments made by Donald Trump regarding JD Vance, I can’t help but feel a sense of amusement mixed with confusion. Trump’s defense against the “weird” charges is to insist that his running mate is straight. In all honesty, I had never really given much thought to Vance’s sexual orientation. I simply perceived him as weird in that quintessentially Republican way. But now, the emphasis on his straightness by Trump has me questioning if there’s more to it.

The notion that the term “weird” could be equated by some Republicans with being gay is both perplexing and comical.… Continue reading

UFC fighter says he’ll home-school son so he doesn’t ‘end up turning gay’

As I read the news about UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell saying he will home-school his son so he doesn’t “end up turning gay,” I couldn’t help but be taken aback by the sheer ignorance and bigotry displayed in his statements. The fact that a grown man in one of the most physically demanding and, ironically, homoerotic professions possible is terrified of his son being gay is both laughable and deeply concerning.

Mitchell’s comments reflect a profound lack of understanding about sexuality and gender identity. The idea that being gay is a choice, something that can be prevented through homeschooling or other means, is not only false but harmful.… Continue reading
