Sawe Shatters Marathon World Record as Two Runners Break Two-Hour Barrier

Kenyan Sabastian Sawe achieved a monumental victory at the London Marathon, clocking an unofficial 1 hour, 59 minutes, 30 seconds, becoming the first to break the two-hour barrier in a race setting and shattering the previous world record. This remarkable performance saw Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha finish runner-up in his debut marathon with a time of 1:59:41, while Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo secured third place in 2:00:28, also surpassing the former world record. In the women’s race, Ethiopian Tigst Assefa successfully defended her title, setting a new women’s-only world record of 2:15:41.

Nigerian Chef’s Giant Jollof Rice Attempt Ends in Broken Pot, Food Saved

Nigerian chef Hilda Baci’s attempt to cook the world’s largest jollof rice dish unfortunately resulted in the custom-made pot breaking as it was being weighed. The colossal dish contained 4,000kg of rice, alongside other ingredients, which took nine hours to prepare with the help of ten other chefs. While the record attempt was unsuccessful, Baci’s team plans to submit evidence to Guinness World Records, and the cooked rice was later distributed to the large crowd in Lagos. This ambitious feat, planned for a year, aimed to celebrate the popular West African dish and further showcase Nigerian pride.
