UK Deploys Concealed Missile System in Ukraine, Forcing Russia to Scrutinize Shipping Containers
Britain has begun supplying Ukraine with a novel surface-to-air missile system cleverly concealed within standard shipping containers. This ingenious system, dubbed Gravehawk, repurposes readily available Soviet-era Vympel R-73 missiles, originally designed for fighter jets, into effective ground-based air defenses. The missiles are integrated into the containers, transforming commonplace cargo into mobile, easily transportable missile launchers.
The Gravehawk system’s design is remarkably simple and effective. Utilizing two weapon rails salvaged from Su-27 fighter jets, it launches the R-73 missiles, capable of reaching speeds of 1,650 miles per hour and boasting a 20-mile range.
