Farmworker’s Death After Immigration Raid Sparks Questions, Family Seeks Answers
A cannabis farmworker, Jaime Alanis Garcia, died from injuries sustained during a federal immigration raid at Glass House Farms in Camarillo, California. Garcia fell approximately 30 feet during the raid and later succumbed to his injuries, which included a broken neck and skull. The raid led to the arrest of 319 undocumented migrants, and the “rescue” of 14 children, as well as drawing hundreds of protesters and resulting in the use of less-lethal weapons and tear gas by federal agents. The United Farm Workers union expressed anguish over Garcia’s death and the impact of the raids on the community.
