As I sit here contemplating the latest news regarding the ICC seeking arrest warrants against Yahya Sinwar and Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes over the October 7 attack and the Gaza war, my mind is filled with a mix of emotions. On one hand, I am pleased to see accountability being sought for those who have caused unimaginable suffering and loss of life. On the other hand, I am skeptical about the actual outcomes and implications of these arrest warrants.

Israel declares Brazil’s Lula persona non grata for comparing Gaza war to Holocaust

As a Brazilian, it is disheartening to see our former president, Lula, being declared persona non grata by Israel for comparing the Gaza war to the Holocaust. While it is valid to critique specific Israeli actions or policies, comparing the ongoing conflict in Gaza to one of the most horrific genocide campaigns in history is not only insensitive but also deeply inappropriate. The Holocaust was a systematic and unprovoked extermination of over 6 million Jews, while the Gaza war is a complex conflict with casualties on both sides.
