A Sumter County School District bus driver, Yvonne Hampton, has been arrested and charged with reckless driving, culpable negligence, and 29 counts of child neglect after allegedly ignoring a train’s active warning signals and driving across the tracks, resulting in the bus being clipped by an oncoming train. While no students or the bus aide were injured, the incident occurred on April 2nd with 29 students on board, leaving them terrified. Hampton has since resigned from her position, and the district has identified the crossing as unsafe, implementing new safety measures.
