Russia’s withdrawal from the European Convention for the Protection of National Minorities comes as no surprise, given their track record of human rights abuses and blatant disregard for minorities within their borders. The Convention, signed in 1995, aimed to protect national minorities in Europe from discrimination and forced assimilation, ensuring their freedom to practice their religion and speak their native language.
