Platner Sets Maine Democratic Primary Vote Record
Graham Platner has achieved a historic milestone, securing more primary votes than any previous Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in Maine’s history. This record-breaking performance, with over 150,000 votes counted, surpasses all predecessors since 1918, the inception of popular vote elections for U.S. Senators in Maine. Platner’s significant vote share also exceeded the combined total of all eight Republican gubernatorial candidates. The state’s second implementation of semi-open primaries, allowing unenrolled voters to participate, appears to have further bolstered his success, as 75% of the 18,000+ unenrolled absentee voters favored the Democratic primary. Platner has dominated virtually every town, with only three exceptions in his pursuit of this electoral landmark.
