California Joins Growing National Effort to Ban Smartphone Use in Schools

As a teacher in California, I have seen firsthand the impact of smartphones on students in the classroom. The recent decision to ban smartphone use in schools is a step in the right direction in my opinion. It’s about time that schools address the issue of constant phone usage and its negative effects on education.

Personally, I have noticed that when students are not glued to their phones, there is a significant increase in interaction and engagement in the classroom. Teachers are no longer frustrated by students being distracted by notifications and social media during lessons. 2nd-largest school district votes to ban cellphone and social media for students

Growing up in a school district where cellphones have been banned for decades, the news that the 2nd-largest school district is also taking steps to restrict cellphone and social media use for students came as no surprise to me. In fact, it made me wonder why cellphones were ever allowed in schools in the first place. Cellphones are engineered to be addictive distraction machines, and it’s clear that they can get in the way of student learning.
