Florida Bridge Defies DeSantis, Lights Up in Pride Colors
Despite a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) order restricting bridge lighting to red, white, and blue, Jacksonville’s LGBTQ+ community illuminated the Acosta Bridge with rainbow colors in defiance. This act of protest followed a previous attempt to illuminate the Main Street Bridge, which was unexpectedly lifted. The display, lasting approximately twenty minutes, marked a continued celebration of Pride Month in the face of policies perceived as discriminatory. Organizers emphasized the community’s right to self-expression, while FDOT maintained its policy for 2026.
