Trump Extends DC National Guard Deployment to February 28, Drawing Criticism

The D.C. National Guard’s deployment in Washington, D.C. has been extended through the end of February, according to formal orders. This extension, which follows an August declaration of emergency by former President Trump, directs the Guard to protect federal property and support law enforcement. While the original mission was related to crime-fighting, the task force has also focused on beautification projects. The deployment’s legality is currently being challenged in court by D.C.
