I can’t help but feel a sense of unease and discomfort when I read about the Atlanta police surveilling people who are opposing the construction of ‘Cop City.’ It’s concerning to think that individuals who are peacefully expressing their dissent are being subjected to what feels like constant stalking by those who are supposed to protect and serve the community.

The very idea of ‘Cop City,’ a training facility for police officers, seems to exacerbate the already strained relationship between law enforcement and the citizens they are meant to serve. Georgia police and FBI conduct Swat-style raids on ‘Cop City’ activists’ homes

Georgia police and the FBI recently conducted Swat-style raids on the homes of activists protesting the construction of ‘Cop City’. These raids involved the Atlanta Police Department, the Federal Government Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and Georgia Special Weapons and Tactics teams. The residents, who were peacefully protesting against the training center, woke up to blue lights outside their windows and voices shouting demanding their compliance.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, shared her experience of being dragged out of her home naked and having pictures taken of her by the police. This is a clear violation of her privacy and could be considered sexual assault.… Continue reading
