Chestnut Wins Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, Regains Title

Joey “Jaws” Chestnut won the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest, consuming 70 1/2 hot dogs and buns in ten minutes after missing last year due to a contract dispute. This marked his 17th win in the competition. In the women’s division, Miki Sudo secured her 11th title, eating 33 hot dogs. The annual event, held in Coney Island, Brooklyn, featured a field of international competitors and saw a large crowd in attendance.

As someone who has been a longtime fan of competitive eating and the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, the recent news of Joey Chestnut being banned from the event due to an apparent partnership with a plant-based brand is disheartening. Joey Chestnut has been the face of the competition for years, dominating the contest and solidifying his status as an American hero in the world of competitive eating. To see him now excluded from the event that he has become synonymous with is truly a blow to the integrity of the competition.
