2 dismissed from Pennsylvania college swim team after student allegedly scratched racial slur onto another student’s body

I am appalled and deeply disturbed by the recent news of two students at Gettysburg College being dismissed from the swim team after one of them allegedly used a box cutter to carve a racial slur onto another student’s chest. The fact that this kind of abhorrent behavior is still happening in this day and age is absolutely sickening. This is not a mere scratching, as the word used in the headlines suggests. This is a violent and hateful act of racism that should not be minimized.

As I read about Lauren Boebert’s recent visit to George Washington University, where she attempted (and failed) to pull down a Palestinian flag from a statue, the image of the Colorado congresswoman struggling with the flag became a symbol of her misguided actions and priorities. The chants of ‘Beetlejuice’ that greeted her on campus, in reference to her distinct appearance, added a layer of mockery to the situation.

It’s baffling to see a government employee, someone who is supposed to uphold the Constitution and protect the rights of all Americans, attempting to suppress speech and expression on a private college campus.… Continue reading
