I read a news article recently that shook me to my core. An Islamic Jihad terrorist confessed to raping a young girl on October 7, and his excuse was that the “devil took over him”. Reading about this despicable act of violence and the attempt to shift blame onto some external force filled me with anger and frustration.
It is deeply disappointing to see individuals refuse to take accountability for their actions and instead blame a mystical figure like the devil. The truth is, there is no devil. This story breaks my heart in ways I cannot even articulate. A 13-year-old rape victim having to endure the trauma of not only the assault itself but also the burden of carrying and giving birth to a child is a level of cruelty that should never exist in our society. The fact that this situation is unfolding amid the confusion over state abortion bans adds another layer of horror to an already unimaginable tragedy.
