Sweden officially joins NATO after completing its accession process, ending decades of neutrality
As a proud Swede, seeing my country officially join NATO after decades of neutrality is a significant moment in our history. The decision to end our long-standing neutrality was not taken lightly, but it was a necessary step given the current geopolitical climate, particularly in light of Russia’s increasingly aggressive actions in the region. The recent escalation of intimidation tactics by Russia, including flyovers and submarine deployments near Gotland, highlighted the strategic vulnerabilities that Sweden faces. It became evident that maintaining neutrality was no longer a viable option for ensuring our security and sovereignty.
