A crash saved a teenager whose car suddenly sped up to 120 mph in the rural Midwest

Growing up in the rural Midwest, incidents like the recent one involving a teenager whose car suddenly sped up to 120 mph are not something you expect to happen in such quiet areas. The story of a car accelerating uncontrollably is something out of a nightmare, yet it became a reality for a teenager in the heart of the Midwest. As a driver myself, I can’t imagine the sheer panic and fear that must have gripped the young driver as he found himself hurtling down the road, unable to regain control of his vehicle.

Upon reading the article, it’s evident that the situation was exacerbated by the fact that the brakes seemed to have failed as well.… Continue reading

9-month-old dead after being found strapped into safety seat by grandmother in hot car for 8 hours

As a parent myself, the news of a 9-month-old baby tragically passing away after being left in a hot car by their grandmother for nearly 8 hours hit me hard. The shock, disbelief, and outrage that this could have happened, especially under the care of a family member, is almost unbearable to think about. The pain and guilt that the parents must be feeling, coupled with the contempt and anger they may have towards the grandmother, is unimaginable. This kind of event doesn’t just result in the loss of a child, but also in a lifetime of sorrow and regret for everyone involved.… Continue reading

Mother arrested in Texas after baby dies in hot car

As a parent, the thought of leaving my child in a hot car is enough to send shivers down my spine. The recent news of a mother being arrested in Texas after her baby died in a hot car is truly tragic and heart-wrenching. I can’t help but feel a sense of empathy for her, knowing that it could have been any exhausted parent in that situation. The reality is, we are all capable of forgetfulness, especially when our routines are disrupted.

It’s startling to think how easily a parent can slip into autopilot mode, forgetting the precious cargo in the back seat.… Continue reading

8-week-old girl dies in hot car in New Jersey, dad arrested

I can’t imagine the sheer horror and devastation that would follow realizing that your own child has died due to being left unattended in a hot car. The recent heartbreaking incident in New Jersey where an 8-week-old girl lost her life in this tragic manner is a stark reminder of the unfathomable consequences of a momentary lapse in memory or attention. As a parent myself, the mere thought of such a catastrophe sends shivers down my spine.

The fact that these incidents continue to occur perplexes me. Despite numerous warnings, awareness campaigns, and heartbreaking news stories, we still hear of children being left in hot cars, resulting in their untimely deaths.… Continue reading

U.S. to require automatic emergency braking on new vehicles in 5 years

I have mixed feelings about the recent announcement that the U.S. will require automatic emergency braking systems on new vehicles within the next five years. On one hand, I can understand the potential life-saving benefits of this technology. Some people have shared stories of how these systems have prevented accidents and saved lives, which is truly impressive. The idea that a car can react faster than a human in an emergency situation is quite comforting.

However, on the other hand, I have also heard numerous complaints about the functionality of these automatic emergency braking systems. Many drivers have shared experiences where the system engaged unexpectedly, sometimes due to false positives like overpasses, water puddles, or even a rosemary plant growing on the side of a garage.… Continue reading

Millions of recalled Hyundai and Kia vehicles with a dangerous defect remain on the road

As a recently disheartened owner of a Hyundai or Kia vehicle, the news of millions of recalled vehicles with a dangerous defect still on the road strikes a chord with me. Reading through personal testimonies from fellow owners who have experienced engine failures, fires, and various other issues due to manufacturing errors, I can’t help but feel a sense of betrayal. The lack of transparency in providing detailed information about the affected models and years adds to the frustration and uncertainty.

Having dealt with my fair share of quality issues and safety concerns in my Hyundai or Kia vehicle, I resonate with the sentiment of being let down by these automakers.… Continue reading

European crash tester says carmakers must bring back physical controls

I couldn’t agree more with the sentiment that European crash tester is advocating for; the need for physical controls in cars. The move towards touchscreen panels taking over the dashboard of vehicles is not only impractical but also poses a significant safety risk for drivers. In today’s world, where distractions are all around us, the last thing we need is a touchscreen interface that forces us to take our eyes off the road to adjust basic functions like the volume, track, or climate control.

The beauty of physical controls lies in their simplicity and ease of use. In older cars, you could adjust these features without even looking, thanks to tactile feedback.… Continue reading

Toyota warns 50,000 US vehicle owners to stop driving, get immediate repairs

As an owner of a 2003 Toyota Corolla, the recent news of Toyota warning 50,000 US vehicle owners to stop driving and get immediate repairs has caught my attention. It seems like every time there’s a recall on airbag inflators, it’s always Takata. In fact, Takata has recalled over 100 million airbags globally, making it the largest automobile safety recall in history. It makes me wonder, what was Takata doing in the 2000s to mess up so badly?

The affected cars in this particular recall are 20 years old, including the 2003-2004 model year Corolla, 2003-2004 Corolla Matrix, and 2004-2005 RAV4s with Takata airbag inflators.… Continue reading
