Russian Girl Jailed for Wearing Rainbow-Colored Earrings
I recently came across a distressing news article about a young Russian girl who was jailed for wearing rainbow-colored earrings. Yes, you read that right. Wearing a simple accessory led to her arrest and detention. This incident speaks volumes about the state of human rights and freedom of expression in Russia, highlighting the oppressive regime that currently governs the country.
The girl, who remains unidentified, was accused of publicly displaying “the symbol of an extremist organization.” This accusation alone is absurd and shows how arbitrary the authorities’ actions can be. It is deeply disturbing to witness how a harmless act of self-expression can be seen as a threat by those in power.… Continue reading
Just the GOP trying to legislate the death of Democracy
It’s disheartening to see the Republican Party continuously undermine the very foundation of our democracy. They have made it abundantly clear that they do not believe in the principles of a democratic society. For years, they have openly declared that we are not a democracy, but a republic. While technically true, this argument is misleading and serves as a smokescreen for their anti-democratic agenda.
The Republican Party’s desire for power is palpable. They long for a system akin to Russia, where authoritarian rule reigns supreme. The comparisons to Hitler’s rise to power in Germany are not unwarranted.… Continue reading
Busted: Trump repeatedly called for jailing presidents before saying he had immunity
It’s no surprise that Trump is once again caught in the act of hypocrisy. Throughout his presidency, he tirelessly advocated for the imprisonment of other presidents, conveniently disregarding the principles of fairness and justice. It’s the classic case of “rules for thee, not for me.” But what is truly concerning is the underlying authoritarian impulse that these actions reveal.
Trump’s blatant disregard for the law and his insidious desire to have laws that punish others while ensuring his own freedom reflect a dangerous ambition for unchecked power. His legal argument that President Biden could have him, his family, the Supreme Court, and the Senate executed by the military without any intervention from the court unless Congress impeaches him is deeply disturbing.… Continue reading
As I sit reflecting on the potential terror of a second Trump term, I can’t help but recall past economies under authoritarian regimes in Latin America, whether from the last century or even more recent events. His promises bear an uncanny resemblance to all the hallmarks of failed economies under these autocratic governments. From protectionist tariffs leading to shoddy domestic substitutions to extreme crony capitalism. The parallels are startling and a chilling foreshadowing of the path America could be led down under his continued leadership.
However, it’s not just the damaging economic policies that Trump has favored before which concern me.… Continue reading
Right wing authoritarianism doesn’t creep. It’s overt.
Left wing version pretends to be something it isn’t. Either on purpose or lack of understanding. I think it’s mostly the latter, but there are certainly grifters on the left as well.
The authoritarian portion of both sides are non starters for me. The media amplifies these voices because it creates conflict.
Yeah. Left wing authoritarianism is just infantilization run amok rather than some strict desire to centrally control everything. Rent control, minimum wage, wokeness, gun control, it’s all very much like “you can’t seem to play nice so we’re going to make you play nice.”… Continue reading
To the many of us who have been paying attention none of these fascist tactics come as a surprise. President Trump’s words & actions over the summer months were horrifying. He has incited and supported violence several times.
- He shared a video that said “the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.”[1]
- He tweeted a video of a Trump supporter yelling “White power.”[2]
- He tweeted that “when the looting starts the shooting starts.”[3] A saying that is historically tied to a racist Miami police chief from the 60’s.[4]
- Police in Washington, D.C. brutally dispersed an entirely peaceful crowd exercising their first amendment.
