Jackie Robinson statue cut down at the ankles, stolen from Wichita park

As I sit here in Wichita, reflecting on the news of the Jackie Robinson statue being cut down at the ankles and stolen from a local park, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions. The first, and perhaps most prevalent, is anger. Anger towards the person or persons responsible for such a senseless act. Anger that someone could have such little regard for the significance and importance of this statue.

But as a Wichitan myself, I also know that our city has a major issue with an illicit scrap metal market. It’s no secret that there are individuals out there who see statues and monuments as nothing more than a means to make a quick buck.… Continue reading

Texas Superintendent Defends Suspending Black Student Over Locs Hairstyle in Full-Page Ad: ‘Being American Requires Conformity’

When I first read about the Texas Superintendent defending the suspension of a Black student over their locs hairstyle, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of anger and frustration. The very idea that someone’s hair could warrant such extreme disciplinary measures is not only absurd but deeply rooted in racism and prejudice. This incident perfectly encapsulates the systemic issues that continue to plague our society, where conformity is demanded, and individuality is scorned.

In the midst of a country that prides itself on rugged individualism, it seems that some individuals conveniently change their tune when it comes to enforcing their oppressive beliefs.… Continue reading

Trump attacks Haley while referring to her by her first name Nimarata

Trump attacks Haley while referring to her by her first name Nimarata. This headline has sparked discussions surrounding racism, predictability of Trump’s actions, and the ongoing threat he poses to democracy. As an Indian American woman myself, this issue hits close to home.

Firstly, the comments questioning whether the GOP voting bloc is racist and how they perceive non-white individuals are disheartening but not entirely surprising. Racism exists within every society, and it is naive to assume that it doesn’t exist within the Republican Party. However, it is crucial to note that not all Republicans are racist, just as not all Democrats are free from prejudice.… Continue reading

New York man convicted of murdering woman who wound up in his backcountry driveway after wrong turn

I never thought I would witness such a senseless act of violence. It’s truly disheartening to see a tragic incident like this unfold, especially when it involves an innocent person losing their life. The recent conviction of a New York man for the murder of a woman who accidentally ended up in his driveway after taking a wrong turn brings to light numerous themes and sentiments that need to be analyzed and understood.

One of the most disturbing aspects of this case is the defendant’s own testimony during his trial.… Continue reading

Revealed: far-right figures try to create white nationalist ‘haven’ in Kentucky

As I read the headline “Revealed: far-right figures try to create white nationalist ‘haven’ in Kentucky,” a combination of concern, mockery, and confusion unwrapped within me. The idea of a white nationalist community seemed both absurd and alarming. After delving deeper into the comments and reflecting on the issue, my thoughts and perceptions have transformed into a conglomeration of personal insights and opinions.

Firstly, there was a mixed response to this news. Some individuals found the idea of a white nationalist community desirable, equating it to a “safe space” or comparable to the Amish.… Continue reading

When Trump Defines You

Are you telling me that there aren’t people out there like this? Because I personally know several.

I’m sure there are, but of the two, the people who dismiss any criticisms of Trump as “orANgE mAN bAD” are worse. In the words of Dave Chapelle, regardless of whether you like his policies or not, you have to agree he’s having a terrible go at it.

Of course. This is just making fun of the people that base their beliefs currently on what the president supports/opposes, even if that is a 180 from their beliefs a couple of years ago. There are obviously very legitimate reasons to opposed Trump (and I assume a few to support him as well) but a lot of people screech about everything he does just because he did it.… Continue reading
