A giant prehistoric snake longer than a T.rex found in India – now that’s a headline that catches your attention. But what does it really mean to measure something in units of a T.rex? The fact that the length of a T.rex has become a standard for comparison is indeed quite intriguing. But why not use more conventional measurement units to paint a clearer picture for readers? Perhaps the allure of using a revered, larger-than-life creature like the T.rex is what draws people in, but it does leave one questioning the practicality of such a comparison.
The sheer size of this prehistoric snake, a colossal 15 meters long, prompts us to ponder why creatures of the past seemed to be on a grander scale.… Continue reading
As an individual who strongly believes in the separation of religion and education, the recent court ruling in India’s most populous state effectively outlawing Islamic schools is music to my ears. The idea of children being subjected to intense religious indoctrination at such a young age is deeply troubling. Education should be a place where young minds are encouraged to think critically, explore various subjects, and form their beliefs based on rationality and evidence, not blind faith.
The arguments put forth by various individuals advocating for the ban on Islamic schools resonate with me on a fundamental level. The notion that state funding should only support secular education is a reasonable one.… Continue reading
India has recently implemented a controversial Citizenship Amendment Act that has sparked debates and discussions worldwide. The law provides a fast-track to citizenship for immigrants from neighbouring countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, but with one major caveat – they must not be Muslim. The act specifically targets religious minorities persecuted on religious grounds, including Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians. The real intention behind this law is to offer refuge to those who have faced discrimination and violence in their home countries.
However, the way this legislation has been portrayed in the media is both misleading and divisive.… Continue reading
It’s a headline that makes you take a step back and wonder how things got so out of hand. You see, a day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in India conducted raids in seven cities to uncover a human trafficking ring transporting Indians to Russia, it was announced that India has “strongly” asked Moscow to promptly repatriate Indian nationals allegedly coerced into serving in the Russian army under false pretenses. The very idea that individuals were misled into believing they were signing up for one thing, only to find themselves on the frontlines in a war zone is not only disheartening but deeply troubling.… Continue reading
It’s truly disheartening to hear that some of our fellow Indian citizens have been misled and coerced into joining the Russian military amidst the conflict in Ukraine. The idea that Indians were promised high wages and Russian passports only to find themselves trained to handle weapons and sent to the frontlines is deeply unsettling. The desperation and vulnerability of these individuals who were duped by shady recruiters in Dubai is alarming.
The MEA’s warning against any Indians signing up for the Russian military is a crucial reminder for our people to steer clear of such dangerous and unethical engagements. The fact that some Indians were forced to fight alongside Russians highlights the harsh reality of being recruited as cannon fodder in a war that doesn’t belong to us.… Continue reading
India involved in election interference in Canada, says intelligence report
The recent intelligence report claiming India’s involvement in election interference in Canada has stirred up quite a controversy. As an individual interested in international affairs, I must admit that I am not entirely surprised by these findings. It is no secret that countries engage in such activities, with each one attempting to protect their own interests and shape outcomes in their favor.
One point that has left me puzzled is the motive behind India’s interference in Canada’s elections. Why would India even care about Canada’s political landscape? Some argue that it may be a response to Canada’s previous government’s friendly stance towards China.… Continue reading
