British homes will require air conditioning to withstand predicted global heating levels, as measures like drawing curtains and opening windows will be insufficient. The Climate Change Committee (CCC) recommends installing air conditioning in care homes and hospitals within ten years, and in all schools within twenty-five. This adaptation is crucial as the UK must prepare for 2°C of global heating by 2050, with heatwaves expected to exceed 40°C and an estimated 10,000 additional heat-related deaths annually. Consequently, approximately nine in ten UK homes are likely to overheat.

As a person who relies on the postal service for everything from bills to packages, I have a newfound appreciation for the hard work and dedication of mail carriers. Hearing about the recent tentative contract reached with the USPS that includes pay raises and air-conditioned trucks is both encouraging and concerning.

The fact that mail carriers have been out late into the evening delivering mail is a testament to their dedication to their job. Paying them more for their efforts seems only fair, especially considering the physical demands of their work and the long hours they put in. I can’t imagine what it must be like to endure scorching hot temperatures day in and day out, especially in a place like Texas where the heat is brutal. The lack of air conditioning in many Texas prisons is not just an inconvenience, it is a form of cruel and unusual punishment. As humans, we have basic needs like food, water, and shelter, and I firmly believe that maintaining safe and reasonable temperatures should fall under that umbrella of basic needs. Cruel and unusual punishment goes against the very fabric of our constitution, and denying prisoners access to relief from extreme heat is, in my opinion, a violation of their rights as human beings.… Continue reading
