Donald Trump says schools are now almost exclusively teaching kids how to be transgender

Donald Trump’s recent claim about schools exclusively teaching kids how to be transgender is not only inaccurate but also dangerous. As a parent and an educator, I am appalled by the misinformation being spread by the President of the United States. It is concerning to see how easily some people are manipulated by such baseless statements without questioning the logic or feasibility behind them.

The idea that schools are prioritizing teaching children about gender identity over essential subjects like math and reading is not only absurd but also reflects a deliberate attempt to stoke fear and division among the population. As a teacher, I can attest to the fact that our curriculum is designed to provide students with a well-rounded education that equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in life, not to push a specific agenda or ideology.… Continue reading

Ron DeSantis bans Florida’s sex ed classes from mentioning anatomy & contraceptives

As someone who values education and believes in the importance of thoroughly educating young people about important topics, especially those related to sexual health and relationships, I am deeply troubled by the recent decision made by Ron DeSantis to ban Florida’s sex ed classes from mentioning anatomy and contraceptives. The implications of this move are concerning on multiple levels.

By restricting curriculum content to exclude essential information about anatomy and contraceptives, students are being deprived of vital knowledge that can empower them to make informed decisions about their bodies, health, and relationships. Understanding one’s anatomy is fundamental to promoting good hygiene and overall well-being.… Continue reading

Ron DeSantis bans Florida’s sex ed classes from mentioning anatomy & contraceptives. All districts are now required to promote abstinence, exclude consent, and remove any pictures of reproductive organs.

As someone who values education and believes that knowledge is power, the recent decision by Ron DeSantis to ban Florida’s sex education classes from mentioning anatomy, contraceptives, and consent is deeply concerning. In a world where information is readily available at our fingertips, it is shocking that a state would actively choose to keep young people in the dark about such crucial topics. Sex education is not about promoting promiscuity, but rather about providing young people with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their bodies and their health.

By mandating abstinence-only sex education and excluding vital information about contraception and consent, Florida is setting itself up for a rise in teenage pregnancies and other negative outcomes.… Continue reading

Charles Barkley, a name synonymous with basketball excellence and charisma, has once again showcased his generous spirit. Keeping a promise he made to St. Mary’s Academy in New Orleans East, where two exceptional students, Calcea Johnson and Ne’Kiya Jackson, cracked the Pythagorean Theorem, Barkley made the first installment of his $1 million donation. This act of philanthropy not only highlights his commitment to education but also serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration to countless individuals.

The mathematical puzzle, although proven in numerous ways throughout history, had never been tackled with trigonometry until these two bright students ventured into uncharted territory.… Continue reading

All-black outfits, hoodies, Crocs, cell phones and mirrors. Some students are returning to school with new bans in effect

As a student who loves expressing themselves through their wardrobe, the recent bans on all-black clothing, hoodies, Crocs, and even mirrors at some schools are absolutely mind-boggling to me. The reasoning behind banning all-black outfits due to associations with mental health issues like depression is beyond ridiculous. How does the color of someone’s clothing reflect their mental state? It’s a clear case of missing the mark and failing to address the real issues at hand.

I vividly remember the absurd dress codes enforced at my high school, where the focus was on insignificant details like whether or not our shirts were tucked in or if our pants reached a certain length.… Continue reading

Oklahoma revokes license of teacher who gave class QR code to Brooklyn library in book-ban protest

As I sit here reading about the situation in Oklahoma, I can’t help but feel disbelief and outrage at the revocation of a teacher’s license for simply providing her students with a QR code to access a library in Brooklyn. The fact that state officials have spent two years working to pull her license seems like a gross abuse of power and a clear violation of her right to free speech and expression. It’s disheartening to see such vindictiveness and pettiness from those in positions of authority.

Summer Boismier’s decision to stand by her beliefs and refuse to apologize for sharing publicly available information with her students is commendable.… Continue reading

Tim Walz’s gay & bisexual former students praise his life-changing guidance

Tim Walz’s impact on his gay and bisexual former students is truly heartwarming and inspiring. His unwavering support, inclusivity, and kindness have left a lasting impression on those who have had the privilege to be mentored by him. It’s clear that Walz isn’t just any ordinary teacher; he goes above and beyond to show acceptance and guidance to all students, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Reading about the experiences of his former students, it’s evident that Walz isn’t just a teacher but a mentor, a leader, a role model. The way he encouraged and inspired his students to follow their dreams and supported them every step of the way is truly commendable.… Continue reading

Texas school district agrees to remove ‘Anne Frank’s Diary,’ ‘Maus,’ ‘The Fixer’ and 670 other books after right-wing group’s complaint.

As I sit here reflecting on the recent news of a Texas school district agreeing to remove ‘Anne Frank’s Diary,’ ‘Maus,’ ‘The Fixer’ and 670 other books after a right-wing group’s complaint, I am filled with a range of emotions. The fact that books about the Holocaust and antisemitism are being lumped together with books containing sexual content is not only absurd but deeply concerning. The comparison itself is offensive and shows a lack of understanding or empathy towards the atrocities of the Holocaust.

The decision to remove these books reminds me of the actions taken by dictatorships and authoritarian regimes throughout history.… Continue reading

Connecticut town to pay $100K to settle lawsuit after teacher showed Kendrick Lamar video in school

As I read about the Connecticut town having to pay $100K to settle a lawsuit because a teacher showed a Kendrick Lamar video in school, I am left shaking my head in disbelief. The idea that a simple music video could cause such an uproar is baffling to me. The fact that a student and his family felt so traumatized by the imagery in the video is quite frankly ridiculous.

I can’t help but wonder what our education system is coming to when a teacher can be reprimanded multiple times for attempting to expose students to thought-provoking content. The teacher in question was scolded for showing clips of Fahrenheit 9/11, suggesting students watch an R-rated movie for extra credit, and now, showing a Kendrick Lamar video.… Continue reading

Massachusetts teacher on leave after holding mock slave auction and using racial slur, official says

As I read about the recent incident involving a Massachusetts teacher who was placed on leave after holding a mock slave auction and using a racial slur in the classroom, I can’t help but feel a sense of frustration and disbelief. How is it possible that in this day and age, we still have educators who think it’s appropriate to engage in such inappropriate and offensive behavior?

The fact that this teacher also used a racial slur while reading aloud from a book is even more disturbing. It’s clear that dehumanizing words such as slurs should never be spoken by employees or students, as mentioned by the district officials.… Continue reading
